24 Jan THE GREAT CAMPING PROJECT: RECAP WEEK 1-3
So, over, Christmas I threw a crazy ideas at my husband. “Let’s explore the adventure of camping.”
At first, my husband was not a fan. I don’t blame him. When we got married, we spent 2 months living in a RV (before living in a RV was the cool and trendy thing to do). It wasn’t fun or glamorous. In fact, it was a nightmare. We had no running water and my shampoo froze. We vowed to NEVER AGAIN camp.
Then we had kids. And I started thinking about that one quintessential part of childhood one cannot miss: camping.
So, 2018 has been the year of the GREAT CAMPING PROJECT. We started a Youtube channel, AND we’ve gone camping.
Week 1: We camped in our living room with tents.
Week 2: We stayed at a KOA cabin.
Week 3: We went primitive tent camping
We are three weeks into this, and we’ve had a lot of adventures and hiccups as we learn how to camp like pros (spoiler: WE AREN’T CAMPING PROS). But, the thing we are loving: it gives us time together as a family each week. Like most families, we lead very busy lives. It’s go-go-go all the time. But by making time to go camp overnight, we slow down. Each week, heading to the great outdoors (whether in a cabin or tent) we zero in on those who matter the most: our children and our time as a family. It’s been really blissful. There is no distraction, no to-do list around the house, there is only us together for a period of time.
We expect there to be more hiccups, but more than that, we are anticipating more fun memories. In the meantime, we have an entire list of places we plan to try out as a new camping family. I can guarantee, this new project is going to be one non-stop adventure!
