The Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore in Cincinnati, Ohio!

The Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore in Cincinnati, Ohio!

Whenever we visit different places, I love to grab a children’s book where the author is either from the area we are visiting, or the book is about the place we are visiting. Before we left on our trip to Cincinnati, I researched bookstores in the Cincinnati area and the Blue Manatee bookstore consistently popped up.

We spent the day in Cinncinnati during our trip to the Creation Museum and I insisted that we make a stop to Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore. Okay, okay, full disclosure, I actually entered the address to Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore and “surprised” my husband with our arrival. He was a good sport at my surprise (ha!).

Those cozy bookstore has a vast selection of books from classics like Ferdinand to new books like. I especially loved the amazing selection of Christmas and Hanukkah books. They had books I had never seen before like The Dangerous Book of Archery. (Affiliate link)

The walls were decorated with illustrations from different picture book illustrators. You could literally spend a huge amount of time just looking at the artwork. Of course, what would a bookstore named “Blue Manatee” be, if they didn’t also have art and books about Manatees? In the chapter book section, I loved that they had book reviews by local kids for individual books.

The Blue Manatee Press (which was right upstairs at the bookstore location we visited) brags about publishing books with a purpose. If you aren’t familiar with Blue Manatee Press, you need to join me and become familiar with Blue Manatee Press.

While we were visiting the Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore, we bought Lloyd Llama by Sarah Jones. We bought it mainly because I wanted to have a Blue Manatee Press book, but you can only imagine my surprise when we got to meet Sarah Jones while we checked out! Turns out, Sarah Jones works at the Blue Manatee Bookstore. She was so sweet and it was very evident Sarah Jones has a passion for children’s books.

If you are in the Cincinnati Ohio area, be sure to add Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore to your itinerary. My kids had a blast looking over all the books and it was such a sweet spot to our day.
