02 Nov Red, White and Blue Cookie Bites
We are big Olympic Fans around here. In general, we are big sports fans. As a family, we love the competition, the team rivalry, and the fan loyalty. We choose our team and we stand by them. I’ve always loved the Olympics. I love how the Olympic Games bring together the world and the best of the best compete in their sport’s competitions. While I’m a devoted Team USA fan and I love our Team USA athletes, I really love hearing the stories of all the Olympic Athletes from all over the world.
If you’ve followed me since the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, you know that I wanted my kids to understand and appreciate the Olympics too. Okay, to be totally honest, I really devised this plan so that I could watch the Olympics 24/7 and they wouldn’t be frustrated that I had temporarily banned their TV shows. So, I created a plan that would help them experience the Olympics the best way possible (you can read more about that here). It truly was the highlight of 2016 – being able to not just experience the Olympics, but watch the Olympics too.
Since the Summer Olympic Games ended in Brazil, I’ve shifted my focus to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. I’ve encouraged my kids to watching the Lighting Ceremony in Greece. And, we’ve created a list of questions to ask Athletes and we’ve had several graciously respond to us (check that out here and here).
I’ve got big plans to ignite that excitement in my kids for the Winter Olympics, but in the meantime with less than 100 days until the games, allow me to share a simple, but fun treat you can do with your kids! How about some Team USA special treats?
When I’m cooking with my kids, I want it to be easy. There is three of them and one of me, so I need something I can easily supervise and not worry about their safety.
To make our Red, White and Blue Cookie Bites, you only need a few ingredients:
– Red, White and Blue M&M’s
– Premade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Cut the cookie dough in half. This will make it easier for the mini muffin pans.
Using a mini muffin pan, have your kids press cookie dough into the mini muffin pan. Then, really let chaos break loose as you scatter M&M’s all over the cookie dough. Bake as instructed on the cookie dough package.
When you take the pan out of the oven, allow the Cookie Bites to cool before your kids dive into them. We don’t want any burnt fingers or tongues!
Be sure to stick some United States of America flags into the Cookie Bites for decor, so there is no doubt who you cheer for!
