29 Nov Homemade Hot Chocolate
The second the temperature dips, my family starts asking for Hot Chocolate. It’s one of those cozy moments we love in the middle of inconsistent weather changes of Georgia (it can be 30 degrees in the morning and 80 degrees in the afternoon). The hard thing about Hot Chocolate is that if you buy the individual packets of hot chocolate, a box will only last a few days fora family of five. Suddenly, this cozy, warm, yummy drink becomes so expensive.
So, I went looking for a hot chocolate recipe. This was such an intimidating search. My kids really, really love hot chocolate. But I really needed something easy to whip up for my kids in a quick second. Basically, I wanted simple and tasty.
In my search, I found Martha Stewart’s Hot Chocolate Recipe. What is it about Martha Stewart that makes you KNOW you have FOUND the recipe? THE RECIPE. Here is what I like about her recipe: 1. It’s EASY (we are talking THREE, count’em 1, 2, 3, ingredients) 2. It makes a MASSIVE quantity (this is great for saving money!) and 3. It is DELCIOUS!
3 1/2 Cups of Sugar
2 1/4 Cups of Cocoa
1 Tablespoon of Table Salt
Milk for serving
1. In a large bowl, combine, sugar, cocoa, and salt and whisk together well. Store the mixture in an airtight container.
2. MICROWAVE Directions: For individual servings, pour 1 cup of milk into a microwave safe mug and microwave until hot. Add 2 Tablespoons of cocoa mix and stir to dissolve.
3. STOVE TOP DIRECTIONS: Pour 1 cup of milk into a pot, whisk in 2 Tablespoons of cocoa mix and stir until dissolved and warm.
For little ones, I find that I can use 1 cup of milk + 1 tablespoons of cocoa mix for 2 servings for little kids. If it is too hot, add a splash of cold milk or cream to the cup.
Top with mini marshmallows and ENJOY!
How easy is that? I can’t even believe it!
